The History of the Woodburn Police Department Motorcycle Unit

Our Traffic Safety Unit is staffed by two officers deployed on motorcycles after receiving highly specialized motorcycle and traffic investigation/enforcement training. The primary goal of the Traffic Safety Unit is to provide education and enforcement in the community in order to increase safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, while striving to decrease traffic violations, crashes, injuries and death.  Along with our motorcycle units, our department has two radar “speed reader” trailers that can be used almost anywhere in the city to warn drivers of their actual speed as compared to the posted speed. These “speed readers” are also used for traffic management data collection.  Woodburn also utilizes photo red light enforcement at strategic locations to reduce traffic crashes related to red light violations.
