El Paso County, TX Sheriff’s Office

History of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Shoulder Patch

Our patch had gone through several changes since the Office was started back in the 1800’s.  The Current patch was designed by our late Sheriff, Leo Samaniego who served for approximately 22 years before succumbing to cancer in 2007.  He was the longest serving Sheriff in the history of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and is credited with making this Sheriff’s Office on of the best in the state of Texas.  Our current Sheriff is Richard D. Wiles, who took office in 2009.

The patch was designed to represent the rich cultural history of El Paso County and depicts images of the Native American, the Spanish explorer and the American Cowboy.

All three of these groups have strong ties to this region and their influences on El Paso Count can still be seen to this day.
