Traffic Unit
The Casa Grande Police Department Traffic Unit consists of one vehicular Crime Unit Investigator, three motor officers and six Critical Accident Investigation Team (CAIT) members and is currently working on adding a Commercial Vehicle Inspector. The unit is overseen by a Lieutenant and one Sergeant.
The primary role of the Traffic Unit is to improve traffic safety throughout the community and the investigation of fatal and serious injury motor vehicle accidents. As a means to accomplish this goal the Traffic Unit conducts aggressive driver details, seatbelt enforcement details, participates in county wide DUI Task Forces and conducts DUI saturation patrols in and around the city.
The Traffic Unit also conducts safety presentation at local schools, community groups, and special events.
Each officer assigned to the Traffic Unit receives extensive training in vehicular homicide investigation and DUI enforcement from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, and the Institute of Police Technology and Management. Unit members are certified by the International Association of Chiefs of Police as Drug Recognition Experts. Members of the Traffic Unit are certified phlebotomist, have attended Reconstruction schools and are certified in the latest technology used for traffic investigations.
The Casa Grande Police Department Traffic Unit is the leading traffic unit in the county and offers it’s expertise and assistance to surrounding agencies.
