The History of the Charleston County EMS Motorcycle Unit
Charleston County, South Carolina Emergency Medical Services in 2006 formed the Motor Unit with 2 Harley Davidson Police Road Kings. They have 3 Paramedics who are motor qualified and must attend the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office safety school for motorcycles. They are used during special assignments(Bridge run, for example, has 50,000 people running over the cable bridge), Picallo Spoletto, beach duty, etc. The Road Kings have been modified to carry paramedic equipment. There are only 4 EMS systems in the nation that have motors and Charleston County EMS is one of them.
