The History of the St. Louis Police Department Motorcycle Unit

The SLMPD bought its first motorcycle in 1907. And yet since that time, there has never, in the history of the SLMPD, been a female motorcycle officer…. until now. Just a few weeks ago, Officer Michelle Vetter became the first female officer in the history of the Department to complete the rigorous training and testing required to become a member of the “Motor Squad.” Officer Vetter has been a police officer for 14 years. You’ll find her patrolling the 3rd Police District on her 900-pound motorcycle.
