The History of the Washoe County School District Police Department Motorcycle Unit
The Washoe County School District Police Department had ongoing traffic related concerns and issues across the District of 64,000+ students. The decision was made in 2006 to start a Motor Unit to help address these concerns. The unit was started with acquiring a used BMW RT from Auburn PD in California. Officer Jason Trevino was the first officer assigned to the unit. The Department purchased a new Honda ST1300 to replace the BMW. Sgt. John Skourn was the first supervisor of the unit and also became motor certified.
The Unit has grown now and includes two fulltime motor officers that ride Harley Davidson Electra Glides. The Department also has part time motor officers that are certified and are utilized for special events. The Unit assists other local agencies for large events such as Presidential escorts and Joining Forces events.
