The History of the New York State Park Police Motorcycle Unit
The New York Park Police had about 20 of these 1200 Elektra Glides in our region. We escorted Gov Nelson Rockefeller & Gov Malcolm Wilson into & out of the Saratoga Reservation during 1974 & 1975. While employed with the NYSPP President Nixon resigned. Nixon left Gerald Ford as President w’ Spiro Agnew as his V P, then Agnew resigned & Gerald Ford pulled NY Gov Rockefeller to be VP of the US, whereupon Malcolm Wilson moved up to be NY Gov. These GOV’S frequented Saratoga Park a lot in summer months arriving by motorcade & at times landing at a helipad . Recall escorting these luminaries a lot . Also on the Saratoga Park is Saratoga Performing Arts Center which has large crowds & various musical performer- Recall providing escorts & security for many, many bands including Beach Boys, J Geils ,Frank Sinatra, Chicago, Allman Bros, Lynard Skynard etc.
