The History of the Olmsted Falls Police Department Motorcycle Unit

Olmsted Falls Police Department recently put a motor in service. The process began around year or so ago. The agency acquired several vehicles and money courtesy of a drug dealer. One of the vehicles was a 2007 Screamin’ Eagle Road King. We corresponded with several Harley dealerships in the north eastern Ohio area and finally found a dealer that would honor a trade for the Road King. In turn, we received a 2010 Electra Glide Police model completely outfitted for no charge. An officer was tasked early on with locating vendors to outfit both the motorcycle and the motor officer as well as finding adequate training to become a Motor Officer. Funding for all equipment and training was also possible from the money seized from the drug dealer.
The city of Olmsted Falls is approximately 4.1 square miles with the population of around 10,000 residents. Our agency has nearly 25 commissioned officers. Olmsted Falls is a south west suburb of Cleveland. This is the first motor unit for the agency.
