The History of the Obetz Police Department Motorcycle Unit
Officer Rob Rigby is the only motor officer for the Obetz Police Dept. We currently use a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 750. In early 2008 the mayor approached our chief about starting a motor unit. A short time later (1 week) the mayor bought the GSXR 750 and advised us that we needed to make it into a police motor unit. The bike was outfitted with all the emergency lights and siren here locally at a custom motorcycle shop named Twin Visions. In the summer of 2008 he went through the training (Harley Course) with staff from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Motor Units.
Our motor unit is used for general patrol functions like responding to calls and traffic enforcement. He also escort parades and enter the bike into police vehicle competitions such as cops and kids days and the Franklin County Fair. My riding season is April through November weather permitting.
