The History of the Evanston Police Department Motorcycle Unit

We have had motors since the early 1900’s. We currently have 5 2009 FLHTP models which are leased, 1 2000 FLHTPI, and 1 1997 FLHTPI. Our motors are utilized through our traffic division, and are utilized for traffic enforcement on a daily basis when weather permits. We regularly are assigned to handle various traffic escorts, including funeral details, parades, team escorts for all Northwestern University football games, and dignitary escorts which have included an escort to Northwestern University for Princess Diana in 1996. Below are several training photos. We currently have 2  Harley Davidson/ Northwestern Traffic Institute certified instructors in the unit. Our motor officers are required to attend an in house certification course, and a yearly recertification course.
