The History of the Glen Falls Police Department Motorcycle Unit

Glens Falls Police Department was established in 1835.  The Glens Falls Motor Unit was around since the 1920s.  In 2007 Glens Falls Police Department restarted the Motorcycle Unit with approved funding by a Warren County Stop DUI program. Glens Falls Police leased (2) Harley-Davidson Police Road Kings. Today, the primary function of the Motorcycle Unit is Traffic and DWI enforcement.  To date there has been only one Glens Falls Police Officer killed in the in of duty.  That Officer was a Motorcycle Officer John E. Malan.  Motor Officer Malan was killed on Sept. 2, 1935 while responding to a traffic accident on his motorcycle. Currently the Glens Falls Police Motor Unit was 2 Motorcycles and 3 Motor Officers that have completed a week long motorcycle training course.
