Juneau is Alaska’s capital city with a population of 30,711 and encompasses an area of 3, 248 square miles.  The City is located in the “panhandle” of Southeast Alaska, approximately 600 miles southeast of Anchorage and 900 miles north of the Seattle.  Access to Juneau is by the Alaska Marine Highway and daily scheduled flights.  There are 160 primary road miles in the city.

Juneau’s downtown area was originally the site of a Tlingit Indian Fishing Camp.  Gold was discovered in 1880 and mining dominated the local economy until the mines were closed in 1944 so that manpower could be diverted to the war effort.

The Territorial Capital was moved from Sitka to Juneau in 1906.  Federal, State, and local government is also based on tourism, mining, and fishing.

Bald eagles are an everyday sight, and officers are still dispatched to herd bears back into the forest.  In 2007 more then 1,000,000 cruise ship passengers and crew visited our city as well as 200,000 independent travelers.  Juneau provides a safe and healthy family environment free of gangs, graffiti, street crime, traffic congestion and pollution.

The locale offers superb fishing, hunting, and outdoor activity in an area of unparalleled scenic beauty.  Juneau is one of the most beautiful state capitals in the nation.
