The History of the Maryland National Capital Park Police Department Motorcycle Unit
The Maryland-National Capital Park Police Motorcycle Unit was formed in 1975. Officers assigned to the Motorcycle Unit have completed a two week course of instruction in the operation of police motorcycles. The training is physically and mentally demanding and has a 60% failure rate. The Maryland-National Capital Park Police utilize the Harley Davidson Electra Glide police motorcycle, and currently have a fleet of 8 motorcycles.
