The Fayetteville Police Department first established the motorcycle unit in November of 1998 with two Harley Davidson Road Kings and five certified motor officers.  In 2005 the 1999 Harley Davidson Road Kings were replaced with two 2005 Harley Road Kings.  In 2007 the unit expanded and added a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King.  Currently the unit operates with three full time and one part-time certified motor officers.

The duties of the motorcycle officers are primarily traffic enforcement, accident investigation and escorts.  Currently, the Police Department has three motorcycles on staggered ten-hour shifts, five days a week.  The motorcycles have recently been outfitted with digital mobile video recorders and moving radar.  The primary goal of this unit is to reduce fatalities, personal injury and property damage due to traffic collisions through proactive enforcement of moving violations.  The motor officers are certified accident investigators with numerous hours of advanced accident investigation training.  In addition to their patrol functions, the motor units are used as escorts in dignitary motorcades, parades, and funerals.  Motor units are also utilized during large special events such as Bike, Blues and BBQ and Razorback football games.
